Jasen grew up in Hawaii as the typical chubby kid. His parents fed him well with healthy meals but also got to indulge like any kid growing up. He tried many sports, from soccer, baseball, basketball, and bowling. When Jasen was in the fourth grade he was too heavy to play pop warner football with his peers. So that dissipated any hopes of playing football in the future.
The rest of his teenage years, he saw his weight on the scale going up and up every year. It wasn’t until he realized that he never really knew his Grandfather (on his dad’s side). His grandpa was sick and was never able to play with him. Jasen decided he didn’t want that for himself. He wanted to be active and be able to play with his grandchildren.
In 2001, Jasen made the decision to take his health into his own hands. He lost 50lbs that summer with lots of exercise and with strict attention to his nutrition habits. He got more involved in basketball and if it wasn’t for fracturing his wrist in try-outs, he would’ve made the team. Not bad for being the husky kid all his life.
His very first bodybuilding magazine had Jay Cutler on the cover. Flipping through the pages he saw the likes of Dorian Yates, Kevin Levrone, Hidetada Yamagishi, and Flex Wheeler. The idea of molding the body to what you want it to look like through training and nutrition had sparked his interest into his new found lifestyle.
He’s competed on and off over the years; his very first show in 2010 in Los Angeles, he took 2nd place. Most recently, he competed at the NPC Champion Harbor Classic and took 3rd place. Even though he didn’t win, he was in the best shape in his life. And that’s not going to stop him from continuing his fitness journey.
Jasen wants to show and prove to everyone that it doesn’t matter if you grew up fat, chubby, or husky, if you REALLY want to change your life around, then it’s all in your hands. The knowledge is out there for you on the internet. The gyms are waiting for you to be used. All you have to do is make that commitment to yourself and to follow through with your heart, that your health is one of the most important things in your life.
